It was widespread too - influential in a lot of the mid-West and encouraged hostility to and violence against Jews and Roman Catholics as well as Blacks. It influenced elections. It was only when its leaders took up blatant fraud and rape that it collapsed in the late 1920s. Spelled as 2 words.This is the earliest use of "hard boiled"used with a detective I've found. The Continental Op calls himself hardboiled in Red Harvest (1929).<br /><br />Thanks for the review.
