Paperback Warrior Podcast - Episode 02

In this episode, Tom and I discuss the origins of the paperback book in 1939. Our feature is the widely successful publisher Fawcett Gold Medal, a cornerstone of crime-noir in the 50s, 60s and early 70s. We also look at “Black Wings Has my Angel” by Lewis Elliott Chaze and the debut ‘MacMorgan’ novel by Randy Wayne White. 1. In the 70's Fawcett still published some damn good paperbacks. (Many from authors from the Gold Medal haydays of the 50's & 60's) A great example are the 4 adventure novels by Ian MacAlister (a pseudo for Marvin Albert) The first novel, Skylark Mission (1973) is good, but the other three, Driscoll's Diamonds (1973),Strike Force 7 (1974), Valley of the Assassins (1976) are fantastic.
